The Canadiens’ decision to keep Christian Dvorak is proving to be a smart one. He has recorded a total of six points in seven games since the trade deadline.



Since the American forward is set to become an unrestricted free agent on July 1st, it was expected that Kent Hughes might trade him to avoid losing him for nothing.

But with the Canadiens in the playoff picture, Christian Dvorak is contributing in his own way to the team’s success, and his faceoff efficiency makes him a key piece for Martin St. Louis.

That said, could his recent success push management to offer him a new contract?

It’s possible, because a signing that happened on March 5th might give us an idea of what the Canadiens could offer Dvorak to retain his services.

The price to sign Christian Dvorak may already be known thanks to Alex Kerfoot

As reported by Nicolas Cloutier of TVA Sports, Alex Kerfoot signed a one-year deal with Utah HC worth $3 million, and the journalist sees a similarity with the Canadiens forward.

“In recent months, not many centers have signed contract extensions who share a similar profile to Dvorak – that is: a center who puts up around 30 points and plays at least two minutes per game on the penalty kill.

Ideally, the contract should also be recent enough to reflect the expected increase in the salary cap announced on January 31.”
