The New York Rangers are having a truly disappointing season, much like their talented forward, Alexis Lafreniere.

At the beginning of the year, many saw this team as one of the best in the East, but now, it seems like nothing is working anymore. Despite all that, they’re still close to a playoff spot, just one point behind the Montreal Canadiens.

But they’ve played one more games than the Habs, so it’s far from a sure thing.

What’s generating a lot of buzz right now is a rumor started by Larry Brooks, a highly respected journalist in New York.

He believes the Rangers should trade Alexis Lafrenière.

Honestly, I think that’s a bit much.

We’re still talking about a former first overall pick who’s only 23 years old. Yes, he’s not having a standout season, but I think it’s too early to panic.

According to Brooks, the Rangers could send Alexis Lafrenière to the Anaheim Ducks in exchange for another name well known to Montreal Canadiens fans.

That’s right, he’s talking about none other than Trevor Zegras!

It would be a trade of young players who need a fresh start.

Lafreniere has 43 points in 73 games this season, while Trevor Zegras has just 25 points in 47 games.

So I kind of understand the idea, but there’s no guarantee it would work out any better elsewhere.

What I find strange is that the Rangers just signed Alexis Lafrenière to a 7-year deal at $7.45 million per season.

That’s a lot of money just to turn around and put him on the market.

It sends the wrong message, but one thing’s for sure, if management really wants to shake things up, it could happen faster than we think.

It shows the Rangers are truly ready to shuffle the deck.
