We had two major announcements from the Montreal Canadiens in the last few minutes.

First, head coach Martin St-Louis announced that young Jakub Dobes will be thrown into the fire for this extremely important game against the Philadelphia Flyers.

Second, MSL mentioned that the team will have to manage without Kaiden Guhle tonight, as he’s still not ready to return to action.

Jakub Dobes in net

This is an interesting decision that shows great confidence from the organization in Dobes, as the Habs absolutely cannot afford to lose tonight’s game.

Many would have preferred to see Samuel Montembeault in net tonight and have Dobes try to pull off a surprise against the Carolina Hurricanes, but Martin St-Louis decided otherwise.

His number 2 goalie will therefore face the lower-ranked team, while his number 1 will face the higher-ranked team-which also makes sense.

“Martin St. Louis says Dobes is starting.

No Kaiden Guhle”

– Eric Engels

This will be a good challenge for Dobes!

We can forget about Kaiden Guhle returning to the lineup tonight

Guhle could still return as early as tomorrow to face the Carolina Hurricanes, but he’s still not ready to play tonight.

Arber Xhekaj, Jayden Struble, and David Savard will all be in uniform against the Flyers.

Guhle, 23 years old, has 14 points in 44 games this season with a positive plus-minus of +2.

Let’s also remember that earlier today, just hours before their matchup against the Canadiens, the Flyers fired their head coach, John Tortorella.

More details to follow.
