Juan Soto finally secured his first win in a New York Mets uniform. Despite a rough start in the season opener, things turned around in the second game, and he summed it all up in a simple phrase.

Juan Soto couldn’t be happier after securing his first victory with the New York Mets, a relief for him after a disappointing debut in the 2025 MLB season opener. While the Mets dropped their first game, things went much better for the team in the second matchup of the series against the Astros.
After the game, Soto was expected to speak, and he did just that, addressing multiple reporters and expressing how good it felt to finally win with his new team. He summed it all up with an 8-word phrase: “It’s always great to have the first one.”
As for his home run—his first as a Met—Soto confidently stated that the moment he hit the ball, he was 100% sure it was gone. His response was short and certain. Notably, his homer traveled 390 feet with an exit velocity of 107.3 MPH.
Soto’s first season with the Yankees in 2024 was undeniably impressive, setting a personal best with 128 runs scored. In his final season with the Padres, he played all 162 games—a career high. Given his track record, it’s likely that Soto could establish another personal record in 2025 with the Mets.
Carlos Mendoza Impressed by Soto’s Home Run
Mets manager Carlos Mendoza couldn’t hold back his admiration for Soto’s home run, calling it “amazing.” Mendoza acknowledged how important the moment was for the Dominican slugger to kick off the season strong with the team.
“It’s pretty incredible, not easy to do, talking about a pitch out of the strike zone, up and in. I think it was a 96 MPH cutter, and he was able to turn on it, sending it on a line like that—amazing,” Mendoza said, highlighting Soto’s ability to handle a challenging pitch from Brown.
