Montreal Canadiens defenseman Kaiden Guhle is speaking out after a frightening injury that, thankfully, wasn’t as bad as it potentially could have been.

Montreal Canadiens defenseman Kaiden Guhle took an awkward fall into the boards during his club’s 4-1 loss to the Winnipeg Jets on January 28; in doing so, he accidentally sliced his right quad muscle with his left skate.

He’s missed the last 21 games while rehabilitating the injury, which could potentially have been fatal had his skate come in contact with the femoral artery.

Needless to say, it was a frightening situation for him to experience, as he recently explained..

It happens, and you see it, and you don’t know really what’s going on. Obviously, for what happened, it was the best-case scenario – didn’t hit any nerves or arteries. But, at the time, you don’t know that. Scary. Hopefully, I don’t have to go through that again, or anyone doesn’t have to go through that.

As they were kind of getting me ready to go in the ambulance, that was the topic they were talking about, trying to stop the bleeding because they don’t know right away if there was anything (cut) there. So I didn’t know at the time (if the artery had been hit), but once I got to the hospital and they said they stopped the bleeding, I was pretty sure I was going to be ok.

He immediately underwent successful surgery and was initially given a 3-4 month timeline for a potential return. However, he returned exactly 2 months later as he suited up in last night’s 4-1 loss against the Carolina Hurricanes.

He has 14 points (4G, 10A) in 45 games this year.
