The New York Yankees recently lost their ace, Gerrit Cole, for the season, as the righty underwent UCL surgery to fix an issue in his throwing elbow. As of now, the Yankees will try to replace Cole with Marcus Stroman and prospect Will Warren, but there’s a chance the Bronx Bombers will look to swing a massive trade to add a starter.

Bleacher Report’s Zachary Rymer recently listed the Yankees as the favorites to land former Cy Young winner Sandy Alcántara in a blockbuster trade. “Ultimately, no team has as much of an incentive to swing big as these Yankees. After coming three wins shy of a World Series title in 2024, they’re in danger of falling much shorter this year if they don’t connect on a such a swing.”

While the Yankees may have the most incentive to swing a blockbuster deal for the righty, this feels like a bit too much to give up to land him.



New York doesn’t have a great farm system as things sit right now. Trading three of its top prospects for Alcántara would be a crushing blow to the system.

For the Marlins, they may even want another young prospect in the deal. Trading for the Miami ace isn’t going to be easy and there’s potential that this package wouldn’t be enough to get a deal done, as shocking as that sounds.
