The TVA Sports journalist, Renaud Lavoie, shared a nice little piece of information just a few minutes ago.

Last night’s game at the Bell Centre was quite special for many players and fans in attendance, especially due to the comeback and the incredible show, but it was also very special for someone else who was on the ice.

As Renaud Lavoie mentions, linesman Derek Nansen announced that his career is over, and last night’s game was his very last in Montreal.

That explains the small gesture by Nick Suzuki to acknowledge his work.

Linesman Derek Nansen is retiring at the end of the season. Last night was his final game in Montreal, capping off a great career in the NHL.

Nansen has been a member of the NHLOA since 2002-just imagine!

He’s originally from Ottawa (Canada) and has officiated over 1,400 games in his NHL career as a linesman-plus more than 65 playoff games-making him one of the most experienced linesmen in NHL history.

We often forget, but the atmosphere at the Bell Centre must be very special for referees and linesmen as well.

Nansen, like many others, first fell in love with hockey as a player who dreamed of reaching the professional level.

We want to wish him a well-deserved and happy retirement, and also hope he fully enjoys this spectacular end to the season that’s just around the corner in the NHL.

Last night, Nansen was joined by Eric Furlatt and Garrett Rank, who were the referees for the game between the Montreal Canadiens and the Colorado Avalanche.
